What does luxury mean to you, my friends? A gorgeous, killer piece of art? An expensive purchase? All true. But luxury can also mean fast – like to the moon and back fast. The majority of the industry’s giants produce “royal class” cars that can compete with the world’s best hotels when it comes to providing top-notch comfort for the customer. That’s the rule #1 for the luxury segment: make cars that will win over folks with all kinds of fancy features, like super-expensive materials, all the latest technological features, ridiculous wheels and/or exterior details, etc. On the other hand, today we’ve got a different trend claiming that luxury vehicles can also be super-fast and ride on the same scale as the swiftest sports cars on the market. What can I say – progress is a beautiful thing.
The Royal Kind Of Speed
And even though at the end of the day lux-class models are not about the whole powertrain games, folks who go shopping for a car like that won’t actually mind it being as fast as a jet plane or a Ballistic missile. I mean, just because they’re cozy and gorgeous doesn’t mean they can’t impress on the race-track, you know? So, today we’ll talk about the fastest luxury cars on planet Earth, ranking them by acceleration ratings – that zero to 60 jump. Naturally, we’ve got different engine types, transmissions, power levels and exterior designs, but they’ve got one thing in common: they’re really f***ing fast. Oh, and one last thing: this is luxury we’re talking about, so, all the models in the list are sedans. Aha, no SUVs, no trucks and sure as hell no compact hybrid cars for today. The Prius? No, never heard of it.
#1 – The Maserati Quattroporte GTS
Alright, let’s start with the drop-dead beautiful GTS from Maserati. Sleeker and sexier than most rivals on the list, this car is a mean beast on the race-track: it’s got a mighty 3.8-lit V8 engine under that polished hood that’s good for 530 Horsepower. With a top speed of 190 miles per hour and a zero to 60 miles per hour jump in swift 4.7 seconds the Quattroporte GTS is a sure thing. The only “downside” to this dream-car is the price-tag. But come on, you knew what you were getting into – this is the world of luxury cars, and you gotta have a pretty thick wallet to be a part of it. This particular cutie can be yours for 140K large. However, I have to say that considering the talent we’ve got down the list, this is a bit steep.
#2 – Luxury BMW Alpina B7
The Alpina B7 is the perfect candidate for the title of “The Best-Priced Luxury German Car In The World”. It comes packed with a TwinPower Turbocharged 4.4-lit V8 engine that pumps out 540 Horsepower and 538 pound-feet of torque. As for acceleration, this magnificent BMW goes from rest to 60MPH in 4.3 seconds. True, this kind of excellence comes with a pretty “impressive” price-tag of 132 thousand dollars (that’s American), but, on the other hand, come to think of it, you get one of the fastest, the mightiest and simply one of the best German cars to ever hit the roads. And plus, 132K is better than 140K, and I would choose the Alpina B7 over the Maserati GTS any time of the year. Would you? Share in the comments and tell me about your personal list of the best fast luxury cars out there.
#3 – The Bentley Flying Spur W12
If you’re a big-time luxury car manufacturer and you name your new baby the Flying Spur, then I guess you’re confident it can perform exceptionally on the track. And if you’re Bentley – one of the best on the market, then it’s not even a discussion. The Spur W12 comes equipped with a super-strong 6.0-lit V12 engine that’s capable of 616 Horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque. This is that elite kind of powertrain to die for, folks, and with a top speed of 200 miles per hour (that’s about 321 kilometers!) and a 0-to-60MPH jump in 4.3 seconds I’d say congratulations are in order: Bentley managed to create the perfect combo of elegancy, luxury, comfort and, of course, power. And the car is pretty large, too, so, you’ve got a spacious interior and that sleek exterior design to go along with all those goodies.
#4 – The Aston Martin Rapide S
Aston Martin is largely known for their top-dog convertibles and coupes. Sedans – not so much. However, whenever the company invests into a new project, they always seem to hit the bull’s eye. And The Rapide S is the real deal: first things firsts, you’ve got a 6.0-lit V12 (AMG29) engine that knows a thing or two about performance and quite literally makes the car fly above the road. With a max speed of 203 miles per hour and a zero to 60MPH time of 4.2 seconds that’s no surprise at all. The only “disheartening” fact about this masterpiece of a vehicle is the sharp price-tag. If you wanna ride around the block in the swift and sexy Aston Martin Rapide S then you gotta have at least 200K – the more the better.
#5 – The Audi RS7
True, Audi is not limited to the RS7 only: they’ve got the mighty-mighty S8 as well, and it’s considered to be one of the best models ever by the Germans. It’s super-fast and can go from rest to 60 miles per hour in 3.9 seconds (max speed is limited to 155MPH, though). And the price is quite appealing as well: 115K for a top-notch fancy Audi. However, as much as I love the S8, the RS7 is simply better on all fronts. First of all, it can do that same sprint from nil to 60 in 3.7 seconds, and second, it’s actually the “low-budget” model between the two (106.5K for the brand-new edition). The strong 4.0-lit V8 is good for 560HP and a max speed of 174 miles per hour. This is the most affordable pick in today’s list, so, if you’re out hungry for some luxury but can’t pay much more than 100K, then this is your final stop.
#6 – Luxury Porsche Panamera Turbo S
Naturally – no list of super-fast luxury cars without at least one Porsche at the top. The Panamera has a story similar to the now-famous Cayenne: not a lot of folks were feeling this new super-car from the world-esteemed manufacturer, but, at the end of the day, it’s a hyper-dope model that the real pros and fans give tone of kudos to. The Turbo S is a true Porsche down to the bones and is essentially a rocket on wheels: with a 4.8-lit V8 that blasts 570 Horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque this magnificent steel horse shoots from 0 to 60 in 3.6 seconds and can go as fast as 192MPH. Add in the gorgeous design, a super-royal interior and all the latest techy features and safety equipment and you’ll get the quickest luxury car in the world. So, is the Panamera Turbo S the winner? Well, not quite…
#7 – The Mercedes E63 AMG
…Porsche is number 2 today, because we’ve got yet another absolutely lovely German model today – the E63 AMG from “friendly” Mercedes. As far as fast luxury cars go, this is the undeniable champ. The beautiful thing about this monster is it’s a race-track beast and a super-refined and luxurious vehicle all at the same time, which is like the dream combination for any true automobile fan out there. The engine is a 5.5-lit V8 and it allows the E63 AMG to go from rest to 60MPH in 3.5 seconds, beating the Panamera Turbo S with a minimal gap of 0.1 second. And, in addition to class-leading powertrain, this gorgeous Mercedes is also quite the classy ride, meaning it would be perfect for you if you’re a serious man in a suit with a briefcase and a million-dollar job.
