Comparing The Technology
As with the features that we discussed in the second installment of the Toyota Prius vs Prius V vs Prius C series, the situation with the techy equipment in the Prius models improves with the price. The Prius C can’t really provide any warning gadgets or collision alert systems, like adaptive cruise control or lane-departure warning, both of which can be installed on the regular Prius. The regular one also has the option of a solar roof, which essentially uses solar power to keep the air in the car cool, thus taking upon itself part of the air-conditioning job.
The standard Prius and the “V” model come with similar options, like a lane-departure warning system, adaptive cruise control – the list goes on. All of the 3 models offer Toyota’s trademark infotainment system – Entune – as available equipment. I have to say – Entune is one of the best modern infotainment systems, providing customers with all kinds of cool apps, that can be used to check the weather, traffic, or even make reservations at a local restaurant for you and your wife, and order movie tickets for your kids. Plus, with Entune you can access Pandora Internet Radio.
Toyota Prius vs Prius V vs Prius C – Comparing The Safety Equipment
Each of the Prius models is packed with a lot of safety equipment, including anti-lock brakes, a driver’s knee airbag, and of course, front-side and side-curtain airbags. As I mentioned before, the regular Prius and Prius V also offer a pretty big list of safety gadgets. They’ve also got a cool Safety Connect emergency system, which automatically contacts emergency workers if a collision happens, and also helps to find your Prius in the case of somebody stealing it. Yep, it’s a great system – unique to the Prius brand.
In the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) crash tests our contestants performed rather well. The smallest of them all, Prius C, got a 4-star overall rating, earning 4 stars on side and front impact tests, and 5 stars in the special rollover test. The classic Prius also earned 4 stars, plus, it got 5 stars on the side-impact test. The Prius V, in turn, got 5 stars for overall crash safety.
The nonprofit IIHS’s stats are very similar. In the majority of tests, Prius C earned the “Good” rating, but was pretty bad in the brand-new small-overlap front assessment. It’s Ok, though, because this test is known to be a very difficult one for most tiny vehicles on the market. The Prius V got the same ratings, although the standard Prius managed to get an Acceptable rating in that same small-overlap test. Not perfect, but still very impressive – not a lot of competitors can boast that same result. Once a classic, always a classic, right?
Toyota Prius vs Prius V vs Prius C – The Verdict
Yep, this is that part, ladies and gentlemen! The part when we have to make a decision. And, as usually, that decision depends fully on you, my friends, your taste and your needs. If you ask me, the standard Prius still remains the best choice of them all. It combines the exceptional fuel-efficiency of the Prius C with much of the Prius V’s advantages, and plus, it offers a lot of high-tech equipment that could make many luxury cars blush.
I’m not saying that the standard Prius stands one step higher than his/her siblings. Not at all. It’s just that you can’t go wrong with it. However, if you really know and like the specific advantages of the other two, then you should definitely go with either one of them.
Say, you just want an entry-level hybrid vehicle with amazing mpg and a good price – pick the Prius C. By the way, the car can easily fit into those tiny parking spots, due to the smaller dimensions. Then again, if you’re looking for some extra interior/cargo room, that the “V” model can provide, then simply go for it. It’s a great model, but, on the other hand, it’s got a disadvantage in terms of fuel economy, so, you better know for sure, that you’re gonna make the most out of that extra space.
Alright, that sums up my Toyota Prius vs Prius V vs Prius C series! I hope it’s been helpful, and y’all picked up some valuable information to use in the real world. Keep firing those engines up, and drive safe!
