With the Prius dominating the hybrid segment for God knows how long, Ford need to go big with the 2015 edition of their popular C-MAX, if they wanna beat the rival. Let’s see whether they managed to overpower the mighty Prius, or if the crown is still upon Toyota’s head. First up, we’ve got the matter of Toyota Prius V 2015 vs Ford C-MAX 2015 safety to discuss.
Toyota Prius V 2015 vs Ford C-MAX 2015 – Safety Issues
In the government crash tests Toyota outran Ford, earning an overall rating of five stars (that’s the perfect score), while its rival got only 4 stars (which is still pretty impressive). The IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety – a nonprofit organization). On the other hand, it has a different picture: The 2015 Ford C-MAX achieved the Top Safety Pick medal, while the new Prius V couldn’t perform on that same level.
As for the safety equipment, the C-MAX and Prius V come packed with a lot of similar standard features, including anti-lock brakes, side-curtain airbags (this one’s very important), and such. Still the 2015 Prius V offers a couple of extra options: while both vehicles offer an automated parallel parking system, and a backup camera, only the Prius V has all the latest technological developments, such as the lane-departure warning system, the pre-collision alert system, adaptive cruise control, and automatic high beams – all pretty necessary and maybe even vital.
So, what does that tell us? Well, only one thing – both brands are pretty damn hard, and safety is not an issue with neither of them. Still, this round is pretty challenging, because the C-MAX is actually more crash-proof, as the IIHS tests are considered to be the most accurate. And Ford performed exceptionally in the small overlap front test. If you appreciate safety gadgets more, than crash test-worthiness, then you should go with the Prius V, as it provides as many safety features, as you could think of. So, that leaves up with another tie in the Toyota Prius V 2015 vs Ford C-MAX 2015 match.
The Matter Of Technology
These days technology is so integrated with our cars, that we don’t even remember the good-old days of “analogue driving”, and can’t imagine modern brands without those techy features. And that’s a good thing! So, if you’re a fan of tech, then you’ll be happy to hear, that both Prius V and C-MAX provide a good deal of technological savvy.
Apart from the aforementioned safety advancements of the new Prius V, the two hybrids offer pretty much the same pack of basic and optional equipment. Such as amazing infotainment systems, auto headlights, keyless access and button-push starting. Still each one of the cars has a couple of standout features, like the C-MAX’s remote starter, or adaptive cruise control in Prius V. So, generally, the 2015 editions are evenly matched in terms of technological features.
This might come as a surprise to some folks, but the basic equipment levels of the new Prius V and C-MAX are very much similar. Standard models offer just about the same bunch of features, and the available advancements – as well as their pricing – are, again, very similar.
At the same time, Prius V is the king, when it comes to matching the interiors: although both Prius and MAX can take in only 5 passengers, Toyota offers an amazingly spacious cargo area of 34.3 cubic feet, while Ford can “boast” only 24.5 cubic feet. In addition, the rear seat of the Prius feels larger – in width, and in legroom. So, that’s an obvious win for Toyota in this round of the Toyota Prius V 2015 vs Ford C-MAX 2015 fight.
Toyota Prius V 2015 vs Ford C-MAX 2015 – Value
That great interior, however, comes at a price: the 2015 Toyota Prius starts at about 27.5K with shipping, while the new Ford C-MAX can be yours for only 25K. For those who put a spacious and comfortable interior first, Prius’s excellence in that matter could easily cover the gap in prize. But the drivers, who don’t really need all that additional space in the interior, will probably go with the C-MAX, as it’s significantly cheaper, and has all the equipment and techy features of the rival. What, you though the Toyota Prius V 2015 vs Ford C-MAX 2015 competition would be an easy one? Nope!
To me, both Prius V and C-MAX are great. They’ve got everything that the customers could ever need from a contemporary hybrid, including exceptional fuel-efficiency, reliability and technology. Today’s contestants are actually a lot more alike, than I initially thought, and that means that the competition in 2016 is gonna be a very exciting one!
