If you take a closer look at what’s going on in the automobile industry in the last 10 to 15 years, than you can make some interesting observations. For example, Toyota, one of the industry’s biggest players, has been the locomotive, the moving force ever since the 21st century took its rightful place. Tacoma, Camry, Corolla, and Prius – these brands are the heavy hitters, the best of the best, and everybody else on the market – one way or the other – try to mimic their excellence and commitment.
For over 10 years now, Tacoma has been the leading truck, Camry and Corolla – the best-selling sedans and the Prius is – and has been from the very first day – the best hybrid on planet earth. From the very first launch back in 1997, this brand showed the world what the hybrid technology could mean for the common folks – amazing fuel-efficiency, great price, reliability, and so much more.
A Piece Of That Tasty Cake
And it’s no surprise that all the other major players in the industry decided to grab a piece of that cake for themselves. After all, the hybrid segment is one of the wealthiest, with total year-end gross of several hundreds of millions. And so, as a result, today we’ve got all kinds of hybrids on the market – big, small, wide, tall, expensive, affordable – you name it. But one name stands out, and that’s Ford’s own C-MAX. This is probably Prius’s biggest rival, and not only in America. These two have been fighting all over the globe for a while now, and so, it’s time to finally set the score. Let’s see, who’s gonna be victorious in the Toyota Prius V 2015 vs Ford C-MAX 2015 competition.
The Million Dollar Question
Fuel-efficient hatchbacks are like a big trend these days, and if you’re looking for one with an affordable price, and enough room for your whole family, then I suggest you familiarize yourself with these gentlemen – Toyota Prius V 2015, and Ford C-MAX 2015. They’re all-around amazing hybrid vehicles, and certainly among the very best. Both vehicles provide all the modern technological features, a very comfortable experience on the road, and some very efficient (and effective) hybrid powertrain. So, the million dollar question is – who’s the better of the two? Well, that’s kinda why I’m writing this Toyota Prius V 2015 vs Ford C-MAX 2015 review – so that we can find out together!
Toyota Prius V 2015 vs Ford C-MAX 2015 – What’s New For 2015?
For 2015 Toyota decided to go easy – not a lot of changes this year, but still, enough to make it feel like a new model. So, we’ve got an updated styling, a couple of up-to-date technological developments, including LED fog lights, the latest edition of Toyota’s own Entune system, etc. Check out my 2016 Toyota Prius Redesign article – the Japanese are making something special for the next year model, and it’ll be worth the wait, trust me. With competition like the new Ford rising, Toyota has no choice but to make some radical changes, like introducing a brand-new platform for the Prius, not to mention the importance of perfecting the vehicle’s strong suits, like fuel-efficiency and a fair price tag.
As for the American rival, C-MAX, there’s literally nothing new in the 2015 edition. Guess they though it’s good enough already, pretty much like Toyota did. Still, Prius is the leader, not the other way around, so, common logic would suggest investing big this year, so that the C-MAX could win over the market with a better offer, and claim the price in the Toyota Prius V 2015 vs Ford C-MAX 2015 competition. Well, the big bosses at Ford decided otherwise, and so, that’s what we have for today – a mild refreshment for the 2015 Prius, and same old stuff for the 2015 C-MAX. A lazy year for both brands, that’s all I can say!
Toyota Prius V 2015 vs Ford C-MAX 2015 – The Reliable Hybrids
According to the specialists at J.D. Power (these guys are like the best at what they do), both Prius V 2015 and C-MAX 2015 got roughly the same ratings in terms of reliability. They earned 3 out of 5 circles in the Power Circle Ratings list, which stands for average reliability (actually, better than average). The new Prius and C-MAX also provide the same warranty coverage: three years and 36K miles of front-to-back protection, or five years and 60K miles of powertrain coverage. That’s like a standard among the hybrids these days, so, nothing special, but nothing bad either. This round of the Toyota Prius V 2015 vs Ford C-MAX 2015 competition is a dead heat.
Which One Is the Most Fuel-Efficient?
Obviously, fuel-efficiency is the biggest selling point for both Prius V and C-MAX. Basically, good MPG is what brought the hybrids all that attention, and it’s still their biggest trump card. Both vehicles have amazing gas mileage; still, neither one can provide the 50+ MPG (Miles Per Gallon) that’s available with the good-old standard Prius.
The 2015 Toyota Prius V comes packed with a 4-cyl, 1.5-lit hybrid powertrain, that’s got 98 horsepower, and provides 40 mpg on the highways, and 44 mpg in the city. The 2015 Ford C-MAX, in turn, offers two set-ups: The standard-level C-MAX Hybrid has a 188-horsepower 4-cyl hybrid engine that returns 37 mpg hwy/42 mpg city. The C-MAX Energi, on the other hand, enjoys a plug-in hybrid motor, which basically means that it can go solely on electric power for up to 21 miles. After that, the traditional gasoline engine comes in.
But, truth be told, that’s not a very serious argument for the C-MAX, plus, they’ve managed to sell only a small percentage of those fancy Energi models, so, once again, Toyota Prius is the most fuel-efficient hybrid vehicle on the market. Oh, and yes, this round of the Toyota Prius V 2015 vs Ford C-MAX 2015 is definitely won by the Prius V 2015. Obviously!
