Hello and welcome, fellow citizens! Good morning, good day, and good evening! Another day, another dealer. Today I’ve got an interesting one for you: the Big Island Toyota Kona service center in Hawaii (HI). This place got a great history, so, let’s take a moment and talk about that. The Big Island Toyota Kona traces its roots to pre-statehood, that’s when entrepreneurs have just arrived on the horizon of the American industry, and when industrialization here was just a fancy new word. Founded back in 1962, Big Island Toyota has been serving folks from all over Kona for over 50 (!) years, and represents the fundamentals of this country’s success story: hard work, big risks and a little bit of luck (can’t do without it, really).
The American Dream
David De Luz, the founder of this fine establishment, was born in 1931 in Hawaii (it was called the Big Island back then). Mr. De Luz’s ancestors moved to America in the mid 1800s from Portugal, the island Madeira. They were seeking for a place to live and to work, and became contractors at a sugar plantation. Quickly enough, they turned into entrepreneurs. David’s grandfather was a rancher in Hawaii, and at the age of 15, he (David) was busy selling tripe at the plantation camps. I guess you could call that the American Dream, and the hard work that these fine gentlemen did in their time, helped the country to become a better place for everybody.
Toyota Kona In Hawaii: The Dream Lives On
In the early 1950s Mr. De Luz started the business of selling used vehicles to a Ford dealer in Hilo. Those were his first steps to becoming one of the biggest dealers in the State of Hawaii. In mid 1970s, he and a bunch of his co-workers opened the Big Island Toyota Kona center, which provided a full service dealership. That was the turning point for David’s career – after that, the dealership got bigger and better with each year.
