Hey there, guys, come on in, I’ve got some news for ya. Lately, I’ve been thinking about conducting another Toyota hybrid test (the first one was my report on the RAV4), but had a slight problem with picking up just the right one. The Japanese manufacturer has a pretty bunch of different hybrids out there on the market, and I couldn’t really get myself to write about only one of them.
So, I’ve decided to shed that revealing light on some of the best of the best – the models, that are popular, affordable, and are all-around solid choices. I intentionally didn’t pick the obvious choices – like the Prius, and such, ’cause everybody knows about them.
2016 Toyota Tacoma Hybrid
So, first up, I’d like to talk to you folks about Toyota’s prime truck. Some new information has been revealed, so, it’s an opportunity for us to dig in. The company is – at last – ready to update its compact pick-up for the 2016 edition. We can expect some major redesigning of the exterior appearance (the fans had to wait for that for over a decade), plus an introduction of fresh-new powertrain.
There was some talk about Tacoma going with a diesel engine in 2016, and, with the announcement of Ford and Toyota partnership in the hybrid segment (yep, that can happen), and with Ford’s EcoBoost having a blast, I think there’s no room for speculations left.
Toyota Hybrid Test: New Looks
As for the appearance, the Tacoma is finally ready to go through some big changes. The front end fascia will be overhauled, and will get a brand-new grille, new headlights, and even a bumper. The diesel and hybrid units (as well as the standard versions) will also get a big reconstruction of the interior. New materials, new upholstery, and a new dashboard – that’s the highlights.
That’s a lot of changes, my friends, and, after having to wait for so long, any new, even slightly significant change will feel really awesome. The mpg is believed to be around 30, and the price tag will jump up a bit – it’s gonna be about 35K or so. So, that’s one Toyota hybrid test for ya – it’s not an actual “Test”, more of a look-ahead, but, it’s a worthy contestant, so, there you go.
2015 Toyota Camry Hybrid
The Toyota Camry Hybrid goes through a serious overhaul for 2015, just 3 years after the 2012 thorough redesign. The exterior will get an all-new and exciting styling, and the interior will get even more spacious and comfortable, with the addition of the latest technological features, and high-quality materials.
So, as for the exterior, the grille is actually looking really aggressive and bold, which may not be a typical “family sedan look”, but, it gives the 2015 Toyota Camry Hybrid a fresh and on-point personality, which is great.
Toyota Hybrid Test: Interior And Powertrain
In the interior, the new Camry has an amazing design, with the dashboard looking and feeling cooler than ever, and the seats being one of the most comfortable in the segment. All the knobs and buttons are a bit larger; that does not only makes them easily accessible and user-friendly, but also adds to the overall royal feel of the cabin.
Ok, let’s move on with the Toyota hybrid test. The powertrain is nothing new – we’ve got the same old combination of a 2.5-lit engine and an electric motor. The conjunction gives a solid 200HP and approximately 41 mpg. Among other improvements of the 2015 editions is a really quite ride.
Alright, everybody, that was some Toyota hybrid test for ya. If wasn’t much of an up-front and personal test – mor of an overview of what’s coming, and, in the case of hybrids, I guess that’s even better.
