Today we’ve got ourselves something of a history lesson, ’cause the subject of discussion is gonna be Toyota coupe models. Yep, the Japanese manufacturer used to do some heavy coupe-designing, but, it seems like those days are far gone. They switched the strategy up a bit, and, that’s how they managed to stay on top. Famous Toyota coupe models include Camry Coupe, Camry Solara Coupe, Celica, MR2, Paseo, Supra, Tercel, and ECHO.

By the way, if you wanna get yourself a nice pre-owned Toyota coupe, like maybe a 1995 Toyota Paseo, or a 2007 Toyota Camry Solara SE, make sure to check out web-sites like motortrend, Kelly Blue Book, and such – they’ve got quite a bunch of Toyota coupe models at your disposal. The price tags are, surprisingly enough, pretty fair – that 95 Paseo is available for just under 2K, and the 07 Camry Solara SE can be yours, if you got 8K to spare. These used cars have a lot of mileage on them, but, for some people, that’s even a plus (retro, oldschool – stuff like that).
Me, I’ve never driven a coupe in my life – yep, that’s right. I most certainly do know people, who owned (and still do) Toyota coupe models, but never been behind the wheel myself. For me, the coupes have always been something of a step back, an unnecessary part of the automobile industry. I know that a lot of people would never agree with me (I’ve got a couple of friends to prove that), but, that’s just my point of view – can’t blame me for havin one, can you? Gotta admit, though, – some of the Toyota coupe models look really cool – even got a sports touch to them.
Let’s Take Toyota Celica coupe, for example. It was quite popular back in the day because of the affordable price, the sports-car look, and an overall great performance and reliability. Celica was produced by Toyota from 1970 up to 2006. The brand has gone through 7 generations – that’s a lot of revision, redesign and re-thinking – including the Toyota Celica Supra. Everybody know the iconic Toyota Supra, right? So, overall, Celica was a really big world-wide success story for Toyota. As you know, the company decided to revive the brand with the Celica 2016 model, so, this may be Toyota finally getting back to its sporty roots.
Toyota MR2, another famous Toyota coupe, had a rich lifeline from 1984 to 2007. The Mr2 went through 3 generations: 1984-1989 – it had kind of a boxy, stupid-looking grill, but good performance and speed; 1990-1999 – that was the real deal, with a super styling, somewhat resembling the Ferrari models, and that vanquishing combo of royalty with loyalty; and finally, there was the final generation, 2000-2007, which was a step-up from the second generation. The MR2 was definitely one of those Toyota coupe models that made a difference. The First and seconds generations of the MR2 are still in the minds and hearts of car enthusiasts all over the globe, and they have a big and committed fan-base.
The Big Names Of Toyota Coupe Models
Ok, let’s wrap it up. As I mentioned in the beginning, Toyota also had coupes like Camry and Camry Solora (all-around nice cars, but nothing special), Paseo (was pretty popular in the 90’s), Tercel, and Echo. But, none of those brands could make exactly the same buzz as Celica and MR2 did. Ask any real car fan about Toyota coupe models, and they’ll name Celica and MR2 – that’s just how it is.
