Yep, that happened! The legendary Toyota Supra from the very first Fast And Furious movie, my childhood hero, has finally been sold on auction. This car was probably as much of a star, as the late Paul Walker and Vin Diesel back in the day. One of the most memorable moments with the car was the final drag race against the Dodge Charger. The vehicle was sold at the Mecum Auctions’ 28th Original Spring Classic 2015 event for a confirmed price of 185K dollars – not bad for a 15-year old ride, huh? Actually, scratch that – a 22-year old car! Yep, this is a 1993 Toyota Supra!
Toyota Supra: A Super Fly Ride
I have to say, though, that the Supra is pretty well packed and is 100% looking the part. I’s equipped with a Bomex body kit, cool Dazz wheels wrapped in tires from Yokohama, custom fog lights, an APR wing, and a very fancy orange-yellow color blend on the exterior. As for the interior, we’ve got a Sparco steering wheel along with some very bright (but great-looking) seats.
The Teenage Dreams
Now, this might come as a disappointment to some of the true and hardcore fans, but the 2 nitrous oxide bottles in the trunk that Mr. Walker loved to pump up in the movie aren’t really doing anything – it’s just for decoration – so, no nitro boost. The powertrain is pretty impressive (given the car’s age): it’s packed with a 2JZ-GE 3.0-lit six-cyl, that’s good for 220 horsepower and is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. Again, that’s not very impressive in 2015, but, for reliving those teenage fantasies – more than enough!
The Heritage Of Toyota Supra
And, being a stunt car, this legendary Toyota Supra has a special kind of a suspension and a roll cage, which are there to ensure the car doesn’t roll over during all the crazy stunt sequences. No info on who’s the lucky guy (or maybe girl?), but it’s not really that important. Not a lot of folks would have predicted that the Fast And Furious movie would turn into a legendary franchise that will conquer the minds and souls of so many people all around the world.
With the passing of Paul Walker the future of the series is under question, but one thing is certain: The Furious movies had a huge impact on the automobile culture, and the culture at large – you can’t ever overrate it! And finally – that orange Toyota Supra and Mr. Walker behind the wheel will always have a place in our hearts!
