Don’t get me wrong: I don’t having anything against cozy family-oriented sedans, minivans and CUV, and I generally applaud the folks who put that environment-friendly idea first. I love to go green, I love the Earth! But for God’s sake, please let me have my mean, rough and emissions-friendly truck – I wanna enjoy it! If you, like me, are a sucker for that off-road heaven with mighty powertrains and roaring engines, then I salute you! Yeah, I’m a fan of trucks, and I’m proud of it. When it comes to kicking asses and taking names nobody can touch them, not even the super-fancy sports cars. We, the Americans, have a special kind of bond with the pick-ups and we do appreciate our hardcore, off-road-ready options, even if all we do with them is just drive from point A to point B, without going hunting, camping or conquering that wild nature. It’s safe to say that trucks are in our blood, they’re part of our DNA, our culture, our heritage, and in this article we’ll discuss the best trucks from the Chicago Auto Show 2016 that took place a month ago in the Windy City.
Keeping Up With The Latest Trends
That’s right, they had quite the line-up of big-bad monsters in Chicago, right next to performance studs and supercars. The giants in the segment are keeping their eye on what’s going on in the industry, and, as we’re all witnessing a growth of interest in the aftermarket, third-party customization and modifications, the majors like Ford, Toyota and Nissan are doing their best to offer the potential buyers some pretty sweat “all inclusive” models that will be ready to rumble the minute you push the pedal. I recently reported on the best luxury cars from the show, but I also had time to check out the trucks, and I’m happy to say that I was in for quite a treat. All the big players rolled in with their best offers (some with more than one) and had only one goal in mind: to win over the crowd with style and power. Alright, let’s take our time and check out the best trucks from the Chicago Auto Show 2016, the heroes of our time. Y’all be driving’ these monsters for the next couple of years, so, stay with me and mark your favorites in the notebook – might come in handy later at your local dealership.
#1 – The Shelby Ford F-150 – Perfecting The Legend
It goes without saying that the latest CAS was a good one, and we got a sneak peak of some truly awesome trucks. Some models were all about that horsepower and torque, while others were focused on offering the best experience on your off-road adventures. Custom cabins/interiors made a debut as well, trying to bring comfort and utility to something as rough and no-cozy as American trucks. And Shelby’s version of the iconic Ford F-150 sure did get a lot of attention. I’ll even go ahead and say that this was the biggest crowd pleaser at the show. Under the hood this beast boasts a mighty V8 that’s capable of 700 Horsepower sharp. In addition, you’ve got some fancy, Mustang-only equipment that looks really cool on the F-150, including 18inch wheels (Shelby engraved), a Borla exhaust, custom-made shocks from Fox and a dual-ram hood, the Super Snake. On the inside the truck surprises with leather embroidery (leather in a Ford truck?!), some techy features and cozy seats.
The Best Trucks From The Chicago Auto Show 2016 – #2, The Toyota Tacoma TRD-PRO
Toyota, the leader of the mid-size trucks game, is ready to make a statement in 2016. The brand-new Tacoma TRD-PRO looks just as good as you might imagine, except maybe for those not-so-scary tires that could be just a bit more “into it”, you know? Regardless, it’s obvious that the Japanese giant will once again dominate the segment. The TRD-PRO, as you could already have guessed, is a beefed-up Tacoma, the ultimate off-road buddy to wish for. With it you’ll get crawl control settings, a one-fourth-inch thick skid plate, an all-around 1-inch lift and custom-made Fox dampers. Yep, we’ve got yet another mighty mid-sizer on our hands. In all fairness, the traditional Toyota Tacoma is perfectly fit for all your craziest journeys into the wild, camping, staying up all night, driving in the dirt/snow/mud/rain/ – that sort of thing – but the TRD-PRO is simply better, which makes it one of the best trucks from the Chicago Auto Show 2016. If you’re craving for some off-road fun this year, Toyota got your back.
#3 – The Ram Power Wagon
Come on, you knew RAM couldn’t miss on a great opportunity to showcase its latest mighty truck, so, they rolled into the latest CAS with guns blazing. RAM’s original go-getter is back for some pick-up blood, ladies and gentlemen, and it’s got a fresh-out-of-the-oven design and a mighty powertrain to prove that: under the hood the Power Wagon features a 6.4-lit V8 (Hemi) that’s capable of 410 Horsepower and 429 pound-feet of torque. If you’re all about towing boats and trailers, you’ll be pleased to know that this beast can tow anything up to 10K pounds, partially thanks to the brand-new 11.5-inch axle. In addition, unlike the upcoming Tacoma, the RAM Power Wagon comes with impressive 17-inch aluminum wheels, wrapped in 33-inch rubber. Obviously, you’ll also get heavy-duty skid plates and tons of minor fixes and updates here and there. Overall, the new truck is a keeper, and if you’ve been a fan of the brand for years, you’ll have more fun with it in 2016 – guaranteed.
The Best Trucks From The Chicago Auto Show 2016 – #4, The GMC All Terrain X
General Motors love their trucks – that’s obvious. And with the brand-new All Terrain X from GMC they’ve got a super-strong fighter in the segment. True, it might not look as scary and tough as the new F-150 or the RAM we just discussed, but when it comes down to a great design and the coolest models, this one is definitely on top of the list. And the greatest thing about the “X” is it’s not just your regular limited-edition appearance pack. No, it’s a solid upgrade for all you off-road fans out there. If you love your trucks black, humble and mighty, it doesn’t get much better than the GMC All Terrain X that features a performance exhaust, awesome black side steps, a bed-mounted sport bar and those dope tires. It’s safe to say that it was one of the best trucks from the Chicago Auto Show 2016 and a good bang for your bucks. GMC, Ford and RAM are all ready for an epic fight in 2016, so, stick around for the clash!
#5 – The Nissan Titan XD PRO-4X
Nissan, one of the greatest when it comes to trucks, is considered to be an outsider by some experts in the field. Not that it’s on the outskirts of the segment, but it did lag a bit behind the mighty pack. However, on the CAS the Japanese giant had one of the most attractive booths, with a fresh, wild-and-free atmosphere. The Titan XD PRO-4X is powered by a turbo-diesel 5.0-lit engine (Cummins) that’s pumping out 310HP and 555 lb-ft of torque. Plus, the brand-new Titan is good for steel skid plates, custom Bilstein off-road shocks and a gooseneck hitch. I terms of towing capacity this monster is a king: it can tow anything up to 12.3K pounds, so, if you’re a fan of trailing, the Nissan truck is your best pick from the bunch. Boats, trailers, buses, planes – whatever you’ve got. Alright, boys and girls, that concludes my list of the best trucks from the Chicago Auto Show 2016.
