Chicago…the 3rd most populous American state with about 2.7 million citizens. It’s the windy city, the land of opportunities, and, of course, home to the biggest mafia bosses from way, way back when we had chaos and destruction in our homeland. The city was established in 1837 and grew rapidly in the 19th century, thanks to the enormous flow of people of mighty talents. Today Chicago is an international “hive”, housing the best of the best, the majors in finance, technology, telecommunications, industry – you name it. In 2014 the city had 50 million international and US visitors. So, why am I telling you all that? How about this: the recent Auto Show in the windy city got me all hyped up and excited and I even Googled a bit about it, trying to figure out what’s Chicago all about, you know? And -naturally – I’m here to tell y’all about the best cars from the Chicago Auto Show 2016.
The Era Of Performance Fans
This year they had the traditional line-up of sexy, strong, high-performance and exotic supercars from the usual suspects: Lambo, Chevy, Aston Martin, Bentley and the others. The greatest thing about the 2016 show was the plentitude of highly affordable, mighty and fast cars that simply couldn’t leave me, an auto fan, alone. I was admiring them from afar, taking pictures, asking folks around about the details…the usual stuff. One last thing – I can’t help but notice this big-time trend of power-geeks here in the Unites States: people are going crazy over high-performance racecars/sportscars/supercars and are ready to pay that top dollars just to get their hands on the next Camaro, Mercedes, Aston Martin or the next drag-ready model. Blame it on the generation of Fast And Furious lovers, but the love is there, for sure. And the majors in the industry are “listening to the call” and rolling out a record-breaking line-up of awesome sprinters to answer to that ever-growing demand. Alright, my friends, let’s take a look at the best cars from the Chicago Auto Show 2016.
#1 – The Chevrolet Camaro SS 1LE
What, a new Camaro is on the way? Yep, what, you didn’t know?! I for one am super-psyched to get my hands on the brand-new edition that’s coming later this year. I’ve been hoping for it to be a triumphant, epic comeback, and, judging by what I saw in Chicago, man, Chevy is ready to rumble. Yes sir! The race track-ready 1LE is one sleek bastard, believe me on that. And you’ll get a choice between two class-leading engines – a V6 and V8 – both of which will be paired to a 6-speed transmission. Either way the sound of that engine roaring is enough to start saving money for it. I’m serious, it sounds like nothing else on the market. The V6 is officially confirmed to be 335 Horses-strong, while the big brother, the V8, will be good for 455 Horsepower. That’s not all: The 1LE package will add a fancy new suspension with magnetic ride-control, larger tires (with a stronger grip) and bigger, better brakes. Got you all hyped up for this one, didn’t I? Hey, don’t pop that champagne just yet – I’ve got more exciting stuff for you down the road. This is the list of the best cars from the Chicago Auto Show 2016, and Chevy was just the first contestant. Catch up, my friends!
#2 – The Mercedes-Benz SL Roadster
Come on, no big-time American show without at least one German brand, right? The super-fancy and sleek SL Roadster was one of the sexiest models in the windy city. This one will be available only late 2016/early 2017, but the wait is most certainly worth it. You’ll get four trims to choose from, including the entry-level SL450, the SL550, AMG SL63 and the ultimate beast – the AMG SL65. The latter will get your adrenaline rushing like crazy as it comes packed with a V12 engine that’s capable of 621 Horsepower and 738 pound-feet of torque. It’s RWD (rear-wheel drive), mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission. And while the max speed is not that impressive – 155 miles per hour – you’ll still feel like a million dollars cruisin’ down the block behind the wheel of the brand-new SL Roadster. It’s a Mercedes, for God’s sake, and that means you’ll get class-leading luxury and comfort in the interior, with top-quality materials, equipment, and all the latest technological features you could think of. When it comes to tech, the Germans are on top of the game, period.
The Best Cars From The Chicago Auto Show 2016 – #3, The Aston Martin DB9 GT
The British giant, Aston Martin, favors the US shows just as much as the German studs. This time around they sent the DB9 GT to make everybody raise their eyebrows. Yep, it’s that cool and comes equipped with a 5.9-lit V12 engine that’s pumping out 540 Horsepower and 620 lb-ft of torque on a daily basis. The powertrain is mated to a 6-speed transmission and can reach a top speed of 183 miles per hour, so now you get why this was a mighty punch from Aston Martin? And the car looks gorgeous, too, with those sharp-but-subtle lines, those in-your-face headlights and that British sense of style of class. Oh, I almost forgot: the DB9 can zing from zero to 60MPH in 4.4 seconds, which makes it a supercar by definition. The price-tag, however, will also be pretty “super”: around 200K for the sweet ride. I know it’s a bit steep, but that’s what the company is known for – dope cars for dope folks. And even though you might not be able to afford this bad-boy on your modest salary, it’s still good sport to admire from afar (I know I do). DB9 – one of the best cars from the Chicago Auto Show 2016. And one of the most expensive ones.
#4 – The Bentley Bentayga
The United Kingdom strikes again, folks, and this time with that heavy-duty artillery in the name of the Bentayga. I know that sounds a bit funny, but that’s about it: everything else about the brand-new Bentley makes you fall in love – from first sight. First of all, it’s a Bentley crossover SUV! How about that? Second, this was a debut at the 2016 Chicago Show, so, stakes were pretty high. And the fellas (or, should I say mates; lads?) from the engineering team made this one count, as the Bentayga is powered by a twin-turbocharged 6.0-lit V12 that’s capable of 600HP and reaches a max speed of 187HP. Acceleration is zingy: the car sprints from 0 to 60MPH in 4 seconds sharp. Again, don’t forget that this is an SUV, with a total weight of 5.4K pounds. What can I say – Bentley sure does know how to make them. It’s gonna cost you a pretty penny, though: the starting price-tag is 229K, so, unless you’ve got about 250-300K in that bank account of yours, I wouldn’t even try to approach this luxurious model. Someone will most definitely beat you to it. Then again, if you’re a rich person, go for it – by all means. And don’t forget to share your experience with us!
The Best Cars From The Chicago Auto Show 2016 – #5, The BMW M4 GTS
With two Brits in the list, the Germans just had to call for heavy reinforcements, and the latest offering from BMW is just what the doctor ordered. This super-dope version of the good-old M4 is basically your best chance at getting a street-legal sprinter with 493 Horsepower under that metallic hood. And it’s coming soon! Expect the new crazy German to hit the US market in mid-Spring (aha, 2016). However, you’ll have to hurry up, because the edition is super-limited and rumor has it BMW already sold all the available units. One look at this hustler is all it takes to believe in the industry again. And yes, I am talking about that exquisite combination of orange and black/grey. It looks truly amazing and, as far as unique color mixture go, this one is definitely on top of the list. So, this was my take on the best cars from the Chicago Auto Show 2016. It was quite an awesome event, full of exciting new stuff and a very fresh and happy atmosphere. I had a good time visiting the Windy City and am now looking forward to the next one. Peace!
