When it comes to strong, eye-catching and breath-taking sports cars, we usually get excited and start talking about all the awesome features a sprinter has, but then we get sad and lean back, thinking that we’ll never get to afford one. That’s true, the majority of top-class sports cars are worth millions, but that’ OK: the biggest achievement of the automobile industry in the last decade is versatility and flexibility: the market is divided into hundreds of tiny segments that are each intended for a certain group of folks, if you know what I mean. The middle-class people are more than happy with their reliable, safe, roomy and fuel-efficient minivans, SUVs and sedans, while the business-class elite only goes for the most expensive luxury vehicles, like your typical Lambo or Ferrari. And back in the day we never had a niche for the customers in the golden middle, those potential buyers who are more than ready to let go of +/- 100 thousand bucks for the next drop-dead gorgeous sports car. That gap was pretty obvious. That’s why I made the list of top 5 sports cars under 100K.
Don’t Have A Million? It’s Ok, 100K Will Do!
Thankfully, today we do! True, it might not be easy to find quality models in that price range, but that’s why you’ve got me! Trust me, there’s enough talent to choose from, and even if you’re a picky person and never pay for anything unless it’s a 100% match, I’m sure at least one of the following beauties will be able to melt your heart and empty your wallet (well, maybe half empty). Note: 100K US dollars is the magical number, the psychological threshold for the entry-level luxury shoppers. It’s a huge amount of money, no doubt about it, but, compared to a milli, it’s quite reachable. Alright, let’s get comfortable, turn off the lights, close the windows and take a look at top 5 sports cars under 100K. Even if you can’t afford it any time soon, you’ll still get a kick out of looking at these lovely vehicles. I’ve got Chevy, Porsche, Alfa and Jaguar lined-up for you, my friends.
#1 – The Corvette Stingray Z06
You might say that the market of sports cars is dominated by the European brands, and you would be right: it is, heavily. However, we, the Americans, know a thing or two about making affordable top-quality sprinters as well. For example, the Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Z06 is one of the best offers in the segment. First of all, it’s got that killer attitude and pumps you up with testosterone and joy (which might just be the same thing). Second, this go-getter comes packed with a mighty engine: you’ve got a 6.2-lit V8 that’s good for 650 Horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque. The powertrain is mated to a 7-speed manual transmission and can jump from zero seconds to 60 miles per hour in 3 seconds sharp. That’s Ferrari kind of speed, my friends, plain and simple. And Chevy is fair with the price-tag, too: the brand-new Stingray Z06 will cost you 80K. I know, that’s TONS OF MONEY, but come on, you won’t be able to get the same strong performance, gorgeous looks and bang for your bucks anywhere else. Or will you? Read on to find out! This is the list of top 5 sports cars under 100K, and we’re only getting started!
Top 5 Sports Cars Under 100K – #2, The Porsche 911 Carrera S
Porsche is THE brand when it comes to world-class cars with a sporty attitude. Germany sure does know how to bring luxury into life and the latest 911 Carrera S is right up that alley. As far as the list goes, this European baby barely makes it, because you’ll have to pay 98K large to drive it away from the dealership. Hands down, if you want a true, 100% authentic and awesome sports car, the Carrera S is just what the doctor ordered. It comes equipped with a 3.8-lit V6 engine that pumps out 400 Horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque. As for acceleration, the model flashes from zero to 60MPH in 3.9 seconds. Aha, compared to the mighty-mighty Stingray from Chevy the 911 is a bit shy and is almost a second slower. And it costs more. So, it might be wise to go with the Detroit giant and suppress you inner Germany fan. Of the top 5 sports cars under 100K the Porshe 911 Carrera S is the most expensive pick. You still love it?
#3 – The Porsche Cayman S
Alright, I’ll admit it – I love the German sports cars too! And who doesn’t? The greatest thing about the Cayman S is it’s a lot more affordable that the bigger brother. This zinger can be permanently parked in your garage if you’ve got spare 64K lying around. That’s a 30% drop in price as compared to the 911 model, but you’ll still get the trademark Porsche design, styling, comfort and luxury in the interior and strong performance on the road. Yep, performance is still on the table: the 3.4-lit V6 is capable of 350 Horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque and it takes the Cayman S from nil to 60 miles per hour in 5 seconds. True, that’s a second slower than the 911 Carrera S, but you’ll still look great riding on the highways or down the city blocks behind the wheel of the Porsche Cayman S. Come on, it’s a Porsche, God damn it! What else do you need to feel like the king of the road? A freaking golden crown on your head?
Top 5 Sports Cars Under 100K – #4, The Alfa Romeo 4C Spider
While we’re talking about fairly-priced sports cars to fall in love with and marry, let me introduce y’all to the 4C Spider. Alfa Romeo, the manufacturer, is an Italian company that’s been around since 1910 (aha, it’s more than 100 years old), but we got the privilege to drive their exceptional cars only two years ago – in 2014. Funny, huh? They used to be exclusive to Europe, but I guess the American market is just too damn profitable to put a ban on. The 4C Spider is available both as a convertible and a coupe, so, if you love taking a “stroll” down the road with the wind in your face, Alfa got you covered. The 4C boasts a turbocharged 1.7-lit 4-cylinder engine that puts out 237HP and 258 lb-ft of torque. Hey, don’t let the lack of cylinders fool ya: this Italian stud sprints from 0 to 60MPH in 4.5 seconds! Aha, quicker than the Porsche Cayman S. And it’s more affordable, too: despite the fact that this is a real-world sports car with a premium status, the starting price is 50K, so, this is definitely the most “low-budget” pick in the list of top 5 sports cars under 100K. I guess, in a way the Italians are still #1.
#5 – The Jaguar F-Type
Speaking of class-leading European sports cars, let’s take a look at what the British have to offer. No, I’m not talking about Bentley – they’re too damn expensive for my taste. I’m talking about Jaguar and their uplifting F-Type that’s been around for just about 2 years. The strongest feature of this one is versatility: you’ve got a choice between 4 models in either coupes or convertibles. The standard edition is powered by a 3.0-lit V6 that’s 340 Horses-strong and can reach a max speed of 161 miles per hour. I’m not even going to mention the interior luxury, the super-cozy seats, the “warm” exterior design that reminds me a bit of the Toyota Celica from the old days or the trademark attention to details. You can get all that by looking at the splendid pics. I’m just gonna say that you can purchase the Jaguar F-Type for 65K (that’s US, not UK). And that’s it for the top 5 sports cars under 100K, folks! True, there’s more talent out there, but these are my personal favorites, so, yeah, it’s a subjective list. Share yours!
