Even though we’re only 2 months deep into 2016 (hey, it’s spring time, baby!), there has already been enough buzz in the industry. I’m going to make a wild prediction and tell y’all that this year is about to be even more epic, scandalous and exciting than 2015 (what, you doubt that?) So, yeah, with January and February behind us, there are a couple of solid brand-new models out on the market right now, waiting for you to give them a try. The majority of the 2016 early releases are in the segment of small, compact cars. For example, Honda, one of the greatest Japanese companies in the world, rolled out the HR-V; Jeep crowded the dealerships all over the United States with the Renegade; Mazda Miata is here with us too, and Alfa Romeo is all about that super-tiny 4C. If you’re a fan of compact cars (I’m talking about really, really compact), then you’ve got yourself a treat this year. But today we’ll talk about 7 dope cars for 2016 – the best of the best, the major talent in the automobile world.
Kicking 2016 Off The Right Way
Now, you could say that you’ve seen enough in your time and nothing can get you excited anymore: Tesla’s Model S, Corvette’s super-strong and ridiculously fast Z06, a mighty Volks Golf…what else is there to see, right? Well, as it turns out, 2016 has a lot of trumps up its sleeve (and I’m not talking about the Republican Donald Trump who’s running for President right now), and there are a couple of noteworthy cars. So, without further ado, let’s take a look at the list 7 dope cars for 2016. If you’re gearing up for a new ride this year, you better keep your eyes peeled. The next models might not necessarily make you lose your cool and start dancing in the middle of your office, but they will most definitely be solid picks for the next 12 months…wait, I mean the next 10 months!
#1 – The Honda Civic
Everybody knows that the legendary Civic hasn’t been in its greatest shape these last couple of years, however, Honda gave it a major kick up the butt and today the Civic 2016 is all about conquering the pedestal. The new, redesigned and restyled edition was first introduced at the New York Auto Show and it made the true, old-time fans shed a few of those nostalgic tears (maybe even more than a few). Don’t get me wrong, there’s nothing nostalgic about it, because, as far as redesigns go, the team behind the new Civic turned the outdated model into something truly modern, sleek and hip. So, even if you don’t care about the engine might, the fuel-efficiency, the handling and the comfort level, looks alone can make you a believer, trust me. Honda will equip this beautiful thing with one of those fresh and out-of-the-box turbocharged 1.5-lit 4-cyl engines, along with a manual transmission and a sporty, fun driving attitude. Plus, we, the Americans, will get the pumped up Honda Civic Type R!
7 Dope Cars For 2016 – #2, The Chevy Volt
The first generation of the Chevrolet Volt might not be the most drop-dead gorgeous car on the market, but it did come equipped with a ground-breaking (well, more like innovative) hybrid tech that managed to mate an electric powertrain with a good-old traditional gasoline engine. Now, the initial hype is well over, and folks are demanding something new. Fortunately, GM is ready to rumble in 2016 and promised to take everything great from the first gen and make it better, plus, obviously, introduce a couple of new nifty tricks. First of all, we can expect some work on the exterior design (the new styling looks pretty dope, especially for an affordable EV), an improved electric-only range, better fuel-efficiency (Prius, I see you), and – wait for it – improved acceleration. On the inside the team is working on switching the old materials with new, high-quality stuff and making the cabin one of the most tech-packed in the segment. So, that’s why the Volt in on the list of 7 dope cars for 2016.
#3 – The Cadillac CT6
Caddy, GM’s luxury brand, has been investing huge bucks into its major comeback, and a lot of that big-time money found its way into the band-new CT6 sedan – it’s Cadillac’s new flagship, if you will. This is the first model in the new breed to get that “CT” right next to its name, and it will officially be the biggest (the largest, that is) and the most expensive sedan in the company’s line-up for 2016. The CT6 is aiming at the German kings’ standings on the top of the mountain, and that’s why the engineers are putting a lot of work into making this sleek, masculine stud a technological paradise. Furthermore, mighty turbocharged engines (for breath-taking acceleration/top speed) and an aluminum-intensive construction (to make the car both light and economical) are also on the menu, so, expect Caddy to hit hard this year. On the inside the CT6 sedan will feature top-quality materials and finishing, so, as far as luxury goes, this is probably the best pick from the list of 7 dope cars for 2016.
#4 – The Tesla Model X
Tesla made a lot of buzz around town when whey introduced the Model S a while ago – the sexiest and the most powerful all-electric vehicle on the market. And now, in 2016, they’re finally ready to take that concept even further and create an EV crossover SUV – the Model X, which is the quick follow-up on the sedan’s huge success. So, it’s got three rows of seating, comes equipped with AWD (all-wheel drive) and is pretty good with towing. And yes, it’s also all-electric and it might even feature those fancy back doors that fold straight up (you can see it on the pic). Now, I have to say that the brand-new and ambitious Tesla Model X has been delayed a couple of times, probably due to the complex tech behind those Falcon Wingy doors, but it’s going to hit the American dealerships real soon, and I’m predicting it will be even more popular than the Model S, simply because it’s a much more capable vehicle and because crossover SUVs are wildly popular these days. Go Tesla – that’s all I can say for now!
7 Dope Cars For 2016 – #5, The Toyota Tacoma
Tacoma is one of the most loved and cherished trucks in the United States and Toyota’s major-league player in the segment of mid-size pick-ups. However, it’s been a while since the company introduced something really new with it, so, expectations are really high for the 2016 edition. The current gen has been around since – and I’m not kidding – 2004! That’s about 12 years, folks, and Toyota REALLY needs to go with something ground-breaking this year. Fortunately, they are: in 2016 you’ll get the most tech-packed Tacoma in history, with improved fuel-efficiency and handling, thanks to an improved construction platform, and, of course, the Atkinson-cycle powertrain. It’s actually safe to say that even without all that new stuff this truck would still be a best-seller because of the reliability, durability and the strong character. Plus, there never used to be any serious competition in the segment, so, there you have it. At the same time, keep in mind that GM is back in the game with the brand-new GMC Canyon and the Chevy Colorado, so, Toyota is finally going to get some proper rivalry.
#6 – The Toyota Mirai
The story behind the Mirai is not as fancy and exciting as what we saw with the Tesla cars, but it’s gonna be an interesting release in 2016 – at the very least. Besides, that design doesn’t always come around, and it definitely doesn’t look like your regular Japanese car. Well, this is a hydrogen-powered vehicle, so, no, it’s not ordinary at all. This year Toyota is aiming at world-domination on the market of environment-friendly cars with the brand-new and redesigned Prius and the mysterious Mirai, attacking the opponents with double power, if you know what I mean. So, under that hood the Mirai packs a 153HP-strong motor and a tank with hydrogen that’s promised to hold up for at least 300 miles straight. Obviously, Toyota is hoping for this new experimental model to turn the market upside down and be the new Prius, so to speak, but it’s too early to make any predictions. We’ll just have to live and see, I guess. It’s slated for a 2016 release, so, the wait will be over soon.
#7 – The Ford Focus RS
Alright, this is the final contestant in our list of 7 dope cars for 2016. The Ford Focus RS has always been a pretty strong and impressive hot-shot, but the thing is, the ST is better – plain and simple. And it stole the spotlight from the sibling and has been enjoying fame, love and respect for quite a while. I guess the team behind the ST made it too perfect, huh? However, the RS is all new and shiny this year and I bet it’s out for some “family blood”. The new edition comes with a turbocharged 2.3-lit 4-cyl engine that pumps out 350HP and 350 pound-feet of torque. In addition, it’s now mated to AWD, so, that means Ford is going for strong performance this time around. Will the future Ford Focus RS be the new king of hot hatchbacks in 2016? I don’t really know – that’s the 2nd question that I’m personally looking forward for an answer to, and the next 10 months will tell us everything we want to know.
