Like it or not, gadgets – those techy things with bleeping screens and tons of features – are the new normal. They follow us everywhere and some people can’t really imagine their lives without them. The technological progress makes it possible for us to enjoy our daily routine just a bit more, and for that we all gotta be thankful. Today we’ll discuss 8 must-have gadgets for your next trip. True, cars today are already quite technologically advanced and certain luxury models come packed with all kinds of features and equipment.
However, in this article we’ll focus on something a little different: stuff that will help you get the best out of your next vacation (or just the next ride down the block). Computers today are as simple as it gets, but sometimes all they do is frustrate. We’ve got more and more drivers “talking bad” to their machinery on the road, and that’s a recipe for disaster. Don’t ever do that – make friends with technology and take a look at my list of go-to gadgets for a stress-free, hassle-free, safe, and most importantly, happy ride.
Gadgets #1 – GoPro, Bro!
That’s right, the world-famous GoPro HD Hero 3 is our first entry. It’s known as the most flexible and down-to-earth camera in the globe, plus, it looks pretty awesome. So, if you’re that type of person who loves filming his/her friend’s/family’s every move during a trip, this piece of tech is the perfect pick. I have to say that the GoPro is pretty small, and you can easily hold it in one hand; regardless, it comes bearing gifts, with built-in features like Wi-Fi, a fast release buckle, as well as all kinds of mounts for a quick fix on your dashboard, roof, side window – anywhere you like.
Furthermore, it’s waterproof (they say to a depth of sixty meters), so, don’t be afraid to fix it on the roof when driving through rain or snow. Finally, thanks to the 21st century, the little guy shoots everything in High Definition, so, forget about that low-res home-made stuff you got laying around – only the best quality from now on! You’ve got wind-noise reduction, HD audio, et cetera, et cetera. And it can be yours for only a couple hundred dollars!
Gadgets #2 – Road Angel? Gem!
Yep, that’s exactly what it’s called – Road Angel Gem. It’s an awesome little thingy that tells you about the speed limit of the current state/city/village/whatever so that you can keep it to a safe minimum. If you, like the rest of us, like to speed up on those rural roads with your friends in the back seats, then you risk ending up with an angry cop on your tail, and you don’t want that, trust me. So, this device is the second go-to gadget if you want your trip to go as smooth as possible. It comes with arguably the most comprehensive and accurate data base of speed limits, speed camera locations (so that you can ease up on the pedal a couple of miles before they catch you), road hazards, and more.
And it’s super user-friendly: the speed limit for the particular “chunk” of the road you’re currently driving on is displayed in the corner of the display – nice and in-your-face. Finally, the Road Angel Gem also gives access to eAssist. It’s a unique service that allows you to get in contact with an operator in case you get in trouble. The operator will inform the emergency services of your situation and they’ll come to your rescue. Pretty great, huh? Right now you can get the Road Angel Gem gadget for about 200 dollars.
Gadgets #3/4 – Parrot Asteroid And Griffin iTrip
The sleek Parrot is a dashboard-mountable infotainment system that integrates with your vehicle’s sound system and phone and allows for voice-activated calls. It works on the Android operating system and provides a quick access to every last one of your music/audio sources; plus, it come with all kinds of apps and features, including navigation tools, web-radio, alerts and points of interest. Parrot has a 3.2-inch screen and a handy remote control.
The Griffin is pretty similar to the Parrot (funny names, right?) in that it also connects to your phone/Smartphone. In addition, it comes with an Aha app, developed by Harman. Once the app in downloaded and installed, you’ll get an instant access to over 30K radio stations and will be able enjoy them on the road. Hey, that’s not all! You can set it up to assist you on your trip, tuning to local radio stations for weather/traffic reports, updating you with points of interest, telling a few jokes…you get the idea.
Gadgets #5 – Delphi Vehicle Diagnostics
The Delphi is a pretty useful gadgets that you connect into your OBD 2 port. It provides all kinds of “health” data, regarding mechanical troubles, problems with the engine, oil, transmission, etc. And, depending on your vehicle’s tech specs, this device can also be used for other task, beyond simple diagnostics. If you go ahead and lock it with your Smartphone via a relevant application, you’ll be able to use it as some sort of a remote control: for locking/unlocking the doors, starting the engine, checking current speed and mileage…pretty awesome, ain’t it? Furthermore, you can also set up geo limits, meaning real-world boarders. This is a great feature for parents who don’t want their kids to get lost somewhere in wild nature or, say, run out of town 🙂
Gadget #6 – Super Tooth HD
The Super Tooth is quite a handy little thingy. It’s a high performance Bluetooth speaker-phone that is – if you believe the official statement – 2 to 3 times more powerful than the current competition in the segment. It has voice-sensitive mics and complex voice recognition software that offers you a line-up of voice commands, such as dialing, checking the voicemail, answering/declining calls, making emergency calls, recharging the battery, and more. Yep, it’s pretty versatile and makes you feel like a big shot 🙂
Plus, the Super Tooth HD can also read the incoming email and SMS messages out loud (aha, just like you see in the movies about future), and you, in turn, can dictate messages, check your Facebook wall, send Tweets and do all kinds of other social nonsense while driving. The great thing about this device is that you don’t have to lose your focus from the road and get your head into the phone to write the next message. So, thumbs up!
Gadget #7 – Kensington Proximo
This gadget is a life-saver if you constantly lose your keys, phone and bag. It’s mated to an iOS-run Smartphone with a sensor fob that you stick to your, say, bag, and, the next time you leave it somewhere at the airport, gadgets will sound the alarm for you. Generally, it would be a good idea to put a sensor in your vehicle so that you can locate exactly where it’s parked after a couple of drinks at the local bar. Or, if your car gets stolen, you’ll help the police to track it. So, try to hide it somewhere and don’t put it where the robbers can see it.
Gadget #8 – Handpresso Espresso-Maker
This “device” is your best friend on those exhausting road trips. If you get tired, the best thing to do would be to stop the car, get some rest in the back seat, and get a cup of coffee. The Handpresso Wild Espresso Maker (that’s the full name) can offer you a freshly-made, awesome-smelling and life-changing cup of espresso in any part of the world 🙂 It’s small, portable, non-electrical and super-easy to use. The ultimate trip buddy, trust me!
