You may be a proud owner of a (or maybe even two) Toyota vehicle, rolling around your hood like you’re calling the shots, but do you really know what the logo is all about? Do you? I mean, the truth is – a lot of folks nowadays driving (and very much enjoying) their Toyotas don’t even know the first thing about the company.
I’ve got a lot of friends who don’t even know that they’re Japanese… Yep, that’s right – the biggest and wealthiest automobile manufacturer on God’s Good Earth is from Japan! Funny, huh?
Keeping Up With The Japanese
The thing is, you might be a fan of the industry and keep track of all the latest cool stuff that’s going on with Toyota – including details about the upcoming models and editions. On the other hand, you might be completely in the dark and not know some great hard-and-true facts about this world-wide famous and esteemed brand. For example, did you know that Toyota came to America in 1957? Well, better late than never, right? So, make yourself a cup of tea and get your friends together – it’s time for y’all to learn 10+ REALLY COOL FACTS about Toyota – a true Japanese mogul that successfully combines Asian traditions and mentality with American pragmatism and sleight of hands. I hope you are ready to learn about some really cool and entertaining facts that will help you better understand Toyota. I know I am!
Cool Fact #1 – Who’s The Greenest Of Them All? Toyota Is!
It’s official, folks. Toyota managed to outrun all the fierce rivals in the industry and is crowned as the number one Global Green Brand. Yep, the company really does care for the environment.
Remember their campaign with the Prius in 2004, when Orlando Bloom and half of the Hollywood celebrities arrived at the Oscars in a Toyota Prius? Well, that made a very big impact on the society, believe it or not, and since then the number of environment-friendly brands on the market has grown higher than ever.

Furthermore, common people learned about the importance of keeping our world green and happy and these days you can’t drive a mile or two without noticing a hybrid/green-friendly car on the road or the parking lots. That’s why last year Inter Brand Survey named Toyota the #1 Green brand. Personally, I applaud the Japanese. I mean, they managed not only to achieve wild success (and profit) with their legendary Prius car and the following hybrid editions of pretty much every brand they have, but also to start a whole new world-wide campaign against pollution and destruction. Kudos, Toyota!
Cool Fact #2 – The Best-Selling Brand And Nameplate
Everybody knows that the Toyota Camry and Corolla are the best-selling cars in the history. Yep, Camry, for example, has been holding that title in the United States for 13 (!) consecutive years. So, who’s gonna say now that the Americans don’t love Asian? And Toyota is very proud of their astonishing sales numbers. But they’ve got yet another reason to be proud of themselves: according to the official statistics, Toyota Corolla has the best-selling nameplate for cars around the globe. Now that’s something! As of 2013, the number of sold Corolla nameplates is around 30 million…The peculiar fact is that it’s been the leader in nameplate sales since 1997, and, with all the serious competition on the market today, one could think that Corolla’s reign is over. Well, it’s not – not even close!
That’s not all: since back in the day – 1966 (I wasn’t even born yet) – the Japanese giant has been producing and selling Corollas every 37+ seconds. In 2013 the rate got a significant boost and nowadays they manufacture and sell Corolla models in every 27 seconds. With that impressive speed and hard work they managed to hit a record number of sales – 40 million units sold worldwide, which is absolutely mind-blowing. To tell the truth, if you take a minute and really learn about the Toyota Corolla model, you’ll see that there’s nothing out of order in this huge success story: it’s simply an amazing vehicle, with great attention to comfort, reliability, safety, price, and tons of other details that make this car special. You know the Japanese are extreme perfectionists, right, so, that’s just how they’re used to do business.
Cool Fact #3 – A Huge R And D Budget
Just think about this: each year Toyota spends over 9 billion dollars (that’s American, by the way) on R And D (Research And Development) towards the future concepts, ideas, designs and all kinds of automobile technologies.
Now, that’s a ridiculous number, and 9 billion bucks a year means more than 1mil an hour (!!!!), which is more than any of us makes in 10 years! Plus, no other company in the world spends that much money on R And D. Hey, don’t think that’s just a stupid waste of money – far from it. Those big investments eventually pay off; why do you think Toyota is the wealthiest and the most respected automobile manufacturer in the world? Exactly! Me and you, we could learn a thing or two about good investments for future benefits – the Japanese have mastered this art to excellence.
Cool Fact #4 – 0, 5 Billion Dollars On Donations
Besides all those monstrous spendings on R’n’D, Toyota is also very heavily involved in all kinds of charity, donations and fundraisings.
Here’s a number for y’all: since 1991 the company has donated more than half a billion US dollars in hard cash and grants. That’s 500 million dollars – almost 24 mil a year!
Yep, Toyota has grown into a true world-wide brand these days, and the fact that they’re spending that much money on donations tells us that we – the common folks – can fully trust our money with them and expect only the best quality and value. By the way, the majority of Certified Toyota Dealerships all over the world (America included) have all kinds of specials, incentives and charity programs for the military families, the kids, the poor families and just folks who struggle every day. So, the next time you shop at a Toyota dealer just know that you’re doing your part in making this planet a better place.
Cool Fact #5 – Truly Worldwide
You know, Pitbull (a Miami rapper) can claim that he’s “Mr. Worldwide” all he wants, but we all know that Mr. Toyoda holds the crown for that title. Since 1957 the company has extended tremendously and is now dominant across the whole world. In +/- 50 years Toyota set up production and showrooms in more than 170 countries and regions. Fun fact: even McDonalds doesn’t have that much restaurants worldwide!
By the way, Australia is one of the first countries to import a Toyota brand – the Toyota Corolla in 1966. That was just a month after the model was launched in Japan. From 1968 Toyota established production in Australia, which was a hugely successful marketing move. Even today this model is one of the “most wanted” cars in the country: 1 out of every 5 cars sold in Australia is a Toyota Corolla!
Cool Facts #6 And 7 – Tons Of Patents And Awards
Right now Toyota has the record of 1K global patents, and that means they’re set to introduce a lot of new models and maybe even brands in the upcoming dates. And that’s great – more innovation and bright ideas means more quality cars and techy features coming out way. Hail Toyota!
Believe it or not, Toyota has the biggest number of Total Quality Awards in the industry. Other big cats – like America’s own Ford And GM – are the close seconds, but nobody can compete on the same level of quality with the Japanese giant. Plus, Toyota’s legendary sedan – Camry – has won the United States Sales Crown 12 (!) times (in a row), and that automatically makes it the best-selling car in the country. Not bad for an Asian brand, huh?
Cool Facts #8, 9 And 10 – The King Of Hybrids, Resale, And Employments
In addition to all that greatness, Toyota also has the biggest line-up of hybrids in the globe, and in 2012 they reached their target of selling 1 million units each year – that’s quite impressive. Toyota has sold about 75% percent of all the hybrid cars in the States.
By the way, the company made their first hybrid car back in 1968, but, because batteries back then were pretty weak, the project was canceled.
Next, Toyota created a lot of jobs for their employees – over 365K jobs, to be exact (that’s in America alone). Plus, they have 240 Toyota franchises, which provide additional 30K jobs.
Now, this is a well-known fact in the industry, but I’ll stress it once again so that y’all know: according to several market researchers over the last 10+ years, Toyota’s vehicles are among the brands with the best resale value on the market. From the legendary Prius to the amazing Land Cruiser and Camry, Toyota’s models sell like hot cakes. Yep, the market of pre-owned cars is pretty much dominated by the Japanese company. And that’s another great reason to pick a Toyota the next time you decide it’s time for a new car – you’ll be able to get a sweat deal for it later on.
A Bunch Of Other Cool Facts
And finally, let’s have a quick look at some more amazing facts about Toyota:
– It takes the company ABOUT 5 YEARS TO CREATE A COMPLETELY NEW CAR – from concept to sales.
– There is a data recorder installed in pretty much all Toyota cars – it’s like the equivalent of a black box on airplanes. Don’t worry; it’s not recording you or your passengers – just some info about your car that will help in determining the cause of an accident.
– The current CEO of Toyota (since 2009) is Akio Toyoda – a very nice and bright man, who is the grandson of the “Original Toyota” – the founder of the company.
– The Lexus & Scion brands belong to Toyota.
– About 80% of Toyota vehicles sold 20+ years ago are still working great!
– You know Toyota’s motto? It’s “Kaizan”, and that means “Constant Improvement”.
– And one final thing: Toyota was founded in 1937, and was initially spelled “ToyoDa”, but they decided to change it to better suit the world-wide markets.
Kiichiro Toyoda (11.06.1894 – 27.05.1952) – the first founder of Toyota holding.
So, as you can see, Toyota’s greatness is too “legit” for any of us to doubt it. I bet you didn’t know half of the amazing stuff I just told you about – not a lot of people do.
